Sibiu / Hermannstadt has been for centuries the meeting point of European civilizations. Here was the turning point towards Byzantium, the Balkans and the gates to Central Asia. 

Today, this process of cultures meeting each other and living together continues.

As Romania takes the steps of European integration, Sibiu/Hermannstadt, as European Capital of Culture in 2007, aims at opening the gates through which the city’s rich cultural landscape and diverse life will meet Europe.
