Bacon used to be a favorite food of all Transylvanians. Among them, Medieval and Early Modern Saxons famously reserved entire towers for its secure preservation in the event of a siege. The tradition survived into more peaceful times, and eventually died off not long ago, when the last Saxons left their homes and went looking for a better world. The names of the last Specksachsen (Bacon-Saxons) from Agnetheln can still be read in the local Speckturm
